LTA Chairman Rejects US$10K Salary Claims

Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA) Chairman Clarence Massaquoi has debunked widespread public claims that commissioners are earning US$10,000 monthly and receive US$3,600 in generator fuel. A leaked payroll document surfaced last year on social media, suggesting that LTA commissioners receive over US$15,000 monthly in total benefits, causing public reaction and calls for salary harmonization across state institutions.

Speaking Thursday, August 7, 2025 on ELBC radio, LTA Chairman Massaquoi said the figures circulating on social media are inaccurate and misleading and clarified that the actual net salary for an LTA commissioner is approximately US$4,800 after taxes and deductions.

Commissioner Massaquoi said commissioners receive about 200 gallons monthly, which he estimated is valued at between US$800 and US$900, not the US$3,600 figure being speculated in public discussions. The LTA boss emphasized that all commissioners currently use their private vehicles and are paid a taxable transportation allowance, and the entity is reviewing a policy that would allow commissioners to choose either a transportation allowance or an official vehicle, capped at US$45,000, but not both. According to him, the authority operates within the government’s benefit guidelines issued months ago and encouraged independent verification of the figures through LTA’s Finance Office.
