The Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) has successfully concluded its Annual Board of Directors and Senior Management Strategic Retreat, held in Ganta City, Nimba County. The retreat, convened under the theme “Building Resilience and Enhancing Performance: Evaluating Our Regulatory and Fuel Security Strategy in the Downstream Petroleum Sector Amidst Volatility,” brought together members of the Board and Senior Management to conduct in-depth reviews of critical operational, governance, and strategic policies in line with LPRC’s five-year strategic plan.

During the retreat, comprehensive presentations were delivered by key departmental leaders, including Wilrusha F. Kemokai, Manager of Human Resources; Hon. Eric Ceekay Sayee, Deputy Managing Director, presenting on behalf of the Operations Department; Mr. Soko A. Kamara for the Finance Department; and Mrs. Kude Cummings Kollie for the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Department. Strategic Consultant, Mr. Rufus S. Berry, served as the lead presenter, guiding strategic discussions and policy evaluations.

The deliberations reaffirmed LPRC’s commitment to enhancing institutional efficiency, strengthening its governance framework, reinforcing fuel security strategies, and ensuring the sustained availability and affordability of petroleum products across the Liberian market.  As part of the retreat program, the Board of Directors and Senior Management conducted a site visit to the Ganta Oil Terminal (GOT) in Ganta City to assess the facility and explore opportunities for future development.

The retreat concluded with a significant Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, as LPRC Managing Director, Hon. Amos B. Tweh, led an assessment tour of the George A. Dunbar Public School in Nengbein Town, Nimba County. The tour was undertaken alongside members of the Board of Directors, Senior Management, and county officials.

The assessment forms part of LPRC’s commitment to the planned renovation of the only public school serving the area. Presently in a dilapidated condition, the school provides education to students from Gowee, Pleadeyee, Tondin, Yelekoryee, and several other towns and villages within District One, Nimba County.

Speaking during the visit, Managing Director Amos B. Tweh reaffirmed LPRC’s broader national development mandate, stating: “Our commitment to the well-being of Liberians extends beyond petroleum operations. By investing in education infrastructure, we are strengthening communities and contributing meaningfully to national development. This initiative reflects LPRC’s continued dedication to Liberia’s progress,” he added.

Also speaking, Deputy Managing Director for Administration, Hon. Jacob Julius Smith, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the company’s social responsibility: “At LPRC, corporate social responsibility remains a fundamental part of our mandate. The renovation of this school will significantly enhance access to quality education for the people of Nengbein and surrounding communities,” Smith narrated.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Ganta City Mayor Samuel Hardt, representing the Superintendent of Nimba County, expressed appreciation to LPRC, noting: He stated, “We commend LPRC for this timely and impactful intervention. The renovation of the George A. Dunbar Public School will greatly improve the learning environment and educational outcomes for students in this community.”  The Annual Strategic Retreat was a resounding success, marked by productive engagements, forward-looking policy reviews, and impactful CSR commitments, further positioning LPRC as a leading institution in Liberia’s downstream petroleum sector.
