The Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) will on today, February 3, 2025 officially launch Liberia’s VISA on Arrival program at its headquarters in Monrovia.
President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is poised to perform the official launching ceremony of the long awaited Liberia VISA Upon Arrival, along with some top members of his government and some officials of the diplomatic corps who are expected to grace the launching ceremony.
Liberia VISA on Arrival is an electronic platform developed by the LIS to help travelers acquire Liberian visas upon arrival at the Robert International Airport. The management of the LIS deemed it necessary to digitize the institution’s services rendered to the public because the world has advanced in digitization of information.
VISA on Arrival commonly known as ‘airport Visa,’ will for the first time be issued in Liberia by the UP led- government. The process requires that travelers must follow the necessary steps in getting a visa on arrival in Liberia.
When applying online, one must have an email account, fill in the passport biometric component, take a passport size photo with white background, do the required payment to the LIS, receive notification of successful payment by the system, and save confirmation page to email.
However, the LIS has made it clear the VISA on Arrival confirmation page is not the actual VISA upon arrival. Passengers, arriving at the RIA, will need to display the approved VISA on arrival confirmation document for LIS officers assigned at the airport to authenticate, followed by a fingerprint before issuance of the Liberia VISA Upon Arrival sticker within the traveler’s passport.
The LIS VISA on Arrival sticker has a lot of security details meant to protect holders of legate passports. At the same time, President Boakai is expected to also launch LIS Re- Entry Permit and Special Cards.
These cards will be issued to non- ECOWAS citizens in Liberia during approved stay without needing to apply for a VISA on Arrival each time. The Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) new electronic platforms don’t apply to ECOWAS citizens because of the community’s protocols on free movement of its citizenry in the region.
Since the pronouncement of the LIS Visa on Arrival and Re-entry Permit and Special Cards, travelers around the globe are expressing happiness over the entire process. Previously, LIS issued manual VISAs to travelers coming to Liberia.
