The Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) concluded a one-week policy review and strengthening retreat on Saturday, June 14, 2025, in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County.  The retreat included the Commissioner General of the LIS, along with his team of deputy commissioner generals, directors, sectional heads, and senior officers. Its purpose was to enhance accountability and transparency within the LIS’s service delivery system.

During the retreat, key components such as finance, procurement, fleet management, human resources, welfare, and logistics were thoroughly reviewed to improve the contemporary administrative leadership management system.

This event aligns with the new Commissioner General Elijah Rufus’s commitment to addressing the challenges facing the LIS as a vital institution of the Government of Liberia.  A significant outcome of the retreat was the development of a five-year strategic plan for the LIS, which will serve as a working tool for the institution in implementing its mandate.

This initiative is fully compliant with the Government of Liberia’s Performance Management and Compliance System (PMCS), aimed at strengthening accountability, transparency, and citizen-centered service delivery across public entities.

At the conclusion of the retreat, Commissioner General Elijah Rufus reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to adhering to the PMCS programs. He emphasized his leadership’s commitment to fostering accountability and transparency in their official duties.

“Areas needing improvement have been identified, and I want to thank everyone who contributed to strengthening the operations of the LIS,” he stated to the participants.
