As a way of increasing the gap of students’ success in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), Uhuru Tech Solution, in partnership with Liberian National Student Union (LNSU) and LITSU, is expected to launch the first-ever mobile “refresher application”. Designed specifically for high school students preparing for WASSCE and school Mock Exams, Alecia K. Adjei, Uhuru Chief Technology Officer, said that the app, “refresher,” seeks to close the preparation gap that has long hindered student success in Liberia.
According to her, every year, thousands of Liberian students write the WASSCE and Mock Exams, assessments that determine whether they can advance to higher education, secure scholarships, or access better career opportunities. Yet, despite their intelligence and determination, many fail not because they are unprepared mentally, but because they lack the necessary tools and resources.
Speaking Wednesday, October 15, 2025, she alleged that for decades, schools and students have grappled with limited access to past exam questions, forcing students to rely on incomplete or outdated materials, shortages of Ministry of Education-approved textbooks, especially in rural areas, high costs of private tutoring, which remain out of reach for many families and exam anxiety, fueled by insufficient practice with real exam formats.
She stated that the reality has contributed to low pass rates, wasted potential, and frustration among students, parents, and teachers alike.
“Refresher is more than just an app; it is a comprehensive digital learning companion, tailored to Liberia’s education context. By combining past papers, quizzes, textbooks, and exam simulation tools into one mobile platform, Refresher empowers students to study smarter, not harder,” Adjei added.
Uhuru Chief Technology Officer told journalists that the key features of the app include past WASSCE & Mock Exam questions such as Mathematics, English, Science, and Social Studies, ensuring targeted and effective preparation, interactive quizzes with instant feedback, answer-sheet shading practice, MOE-approved textbooks, and a user-friendly design.
For his part, Foldestine Paye, CEO of Uhuru Tech Solution, high school students are the heartbeat of Liberia’s education system. “They are the ones directly facing WASSCE and Mock Exams, high-stakes assessments that shape their future. By supporting them with Refresher, we are giving them more than an app; we are giving them hope, confidence, and the chance to succeed,” he revealed. CEO Paye said that high school students face some of the toughest challenges in Liberia’s education sector, yet they also represent the greatest opportunity, adding that with the right tools, these students can dramatically improve their exam performance, reduce anxiety, and unlock pathways to higher learning and meaningful careers.
He explained that while refresher’s primary focus is on students, the app also creates value for teachers, parents, and schools. The focus includes, for Students: access to comprehensive learning resources anytime, anywhere; improved exam readiness; and the ability to track progress, for teachers: a digital teaching aid that reduces the burden of photocopying and sourcing past papers; an effective way to reinforce classroom learning and for parents: a cost-effective alternative to expensive tutoring, combined with the peace of mind that their children are studying with curriculum-aligned materials.
The CEO of Uhuru Tech Solution said that by bridging the gaps, the app supports the broader ecosystem of education, from classroom instruction to at-home revision. According to him, the launch of the refresher app is not only about unveiling a new app, but it is part of Uhuru Tech Solution’s mission to transform Liberia’s education system through technology. He stated that by introducing students to digital learning tools, the company is fostering a culture where technology is not just for entertainment but also for empowerment.
According to him, the official launch event at STARZ University Auditorium in Monrovia, on October 23, 2025, will gather students, educators, parents, policymakers, and partners for a live demonstration of Refresher and discussions on the future of education in Liberia. He said that the event will feature keynote speakers from the education sector, live app demonstrations, student testimonials, and opportunities for schools to register for early access.
