The Government of Liberia has officially granted authority to the Liberia Traffic Management (LTM) to issue driver’s licenses and oversee the registration of motor vehicles across the country, a move aimed at decentralizing and improving efficiency in the transportation sector.

According to the directive, the Liberia Traffic Management will now take over key responsibilities previously held by the Division of Motor Vehicle (DMV) and other transport-related bodies. In a release, LTM Executive Director, James Kollie, welcomed the decision and promised to ensure transparency, professionalism, and the use of digital systems in the issuance of driver’s licenses and vehicle documents.

“We are ready. Our goal is to make the process user-friendly, accountable, and accessible to all citizens across Liberia,” Kollie stated. The new arrangement will also include the opening of regional LTM offices in key counties, aimed at reducing travel burdens on vehicle owners and drivers seeking documentation.

Moreover, LTM has assured the public that all existing documents issued before July 16, 2025, will remain valid, and will ensure a smooth transition for all new processes. “We encourage everyone to familiarize themselves with the new procedures and plan accordingly. Together, we can achieve improved efficiency and service delivery Liberians,” they added.
