Liberia will proudly host the 8th Conference of the Association of African Maritime Administrations (AAMA), scheduled from September 30 to October 4, 2025.

Speaking Thursday, April 24,2025 at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing,  Robert W. Kpadeh, Permanent Representative of Liberia to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) said the program is a high-level continental gathering  and will bring together heads of maritime administrations, industry leaders, technical experts, and policy influencers from across the African continent and beyond.

Mr. Kpadeh said Liberia’s selection as host is a testament to the country’s growing leadership in the maritime domain and its long-standing commitment to maritime excellence, regulation, and innovation.

He further noted that the 8th AAMA Conference will focus on strengthening Africa’s voice in global maritime affairs, enhancing cooperation among member states, and addressing critical issues such as maritime security, environmental protection, and blue economy development.

“We look forward to showcasing Liberia’s role as a strategic partner in shaping Africa’s maritime future,” he stated.

According to Mr. Kpadeh, Category A represents the highest level of decision-making influence within the IMO reserved for the top nations with the greatest interest in international shipping and Liberia’s presence in this category is vital not only ‘‘because we operate the second-largest ship registry in the world, but also because we serve as a voice for developing maritime nations.’’

He said they are working tirelessly with their partners and diplomatic missions to secure Liberia’s re-election, adding that the bid is about ensuring that Liberia remains at the forefront of international maritime governance, championing the issues that matter to the region and the global shipping industry.

He said their message to the international community is clear- Liberia is ready, capable, and committed to advancing maritime safety, sustainability, and shared prosperity.

“In the coming months, my team and I will engage with our partners, regional counterparts, and the global maritime community to strengthen our campaign and prepare for the AAMA conference,” Mr. Kpardeh noted. He called on all Liberians to take pride in this moment and support the efforts that place Liberia at the center of Africa’s maritime progress.
