Liberia’s President, Joseph N. Boakai, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the Economic Community of West African States’ (ECOWAS) mission, stating that Liberia’s dedication will continue to reinforce regional partnerships.
The President, along with other African leaders, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, participated in the 50th Anniversary of ECOWAS with a declaration of commitment to regional integration.
The celebration marks five decades of regional cooperation, economic integration, peacekeeping, promoting democratic values, and infrastructural development efforts that have significantly contributed to stability and prosperity across West Africa.
During Boakai’s arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria, he was warmly received by the Governor, Deputy Governor and Cabinet of Lagos State, the staff of the Embassy of Liberia, led by Charge d’Affaires, Ambassador Robert Y. Lormia, II, and other prominent Nigerian government officials and ECOWAS representatives.
According to President Boakai, Liberia looks forward to strengthening its collective resolve to build a peaceful, prosperous, and resilient West Africa.
While in Nigeria, President Boakai engaged in high-level discussions with fellow heads of state and government to reinforce regional solidarity, explore new avenues for economic growth, and address ongoing challenges such as security, climate change, and human development.
The participation of the Liberian leader underscored the country’s ongoing commitment to the ideals of ECOWAS and its work toward fostering peace, stability, and sustainable development across West Africa.
The ECOWAS 50th Anniversary serves as a vital reminder of the progress made and the continuous efforts required to overcome regional challenges. Liberia remains proud to be an active participant in these efforts and is eager to contribute to the continent’s bright future.
