Liberia has achieved yet another international milestone by its readmission into Africa’s leading tripartite trade union,  the African Regional Labour Administration Center  (ARLAC), after its membership was suspended.

This followed recent interventions by Liberia’s Head of Delegation, Assistant Minister for Labour Standards Emmanuel Zorh, at the 28th  Convention of the Committee of Senior officials of ARLAC. The event was held from March 10 to 13, 2026, in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Assistant Labour Minister Zorh reassured ARLAC of the Liberian Government’s full compliance with its outlined commitments. He warned other default member countries that failure to settle obligations to regional and international organizations, including ARLAC and the International Labour Organization (ILO), could impede future positions of each default member state.

Assistant Minister Zorh acknowledged fellow delegates of Liberia’s tremendous improvements in the labour sector under the Joseph Nyumah Boakai Administration in transforming talent to the job market.  Addressing delegates on the topic: “Labour Administration amid Global Tension”, Assistant Minister Zorh informed fellow delegates about Liberia’s grassroots approach to job creation in the informal sector, which impacts most in the youthful African population.

According to a Labour Ministry release issued on March 21, Assistant Minister Zorh encouraged full compliance with all of Liberia’s international obligations, including the International Labour Organization (ILO) and all affiliate trade union organizations.

Meanwhile, a senior ARLAC official, C.A. Nwazi Tanmanya Mhthambala, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Labour of Malawi, expressed appreciation to the delegates from across member countries, emphasizing the need for more media visibility in future gatherings of ARLAC. Among member countries at this year’s ARLAC Senior officials Conference include: Liberia, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, Sudan, Lesotho, Kenya, Nigeria, among others.

The release noted that Liberia’s readmission demonstrates the country’s commitment to full compliance with all outstanding international obligations, including those related to affiliate trade union organizations’ obligations.
