The Director General of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (L.D.E.A.) Anthony Souh has called on community dwellers to play a more active role in the fight against drugs. He urged community members to support the fight against drugs by reporting those who are involved in the act of selling these narcotic products in their communities. He said by doing so, it would inform the rightful authority and ensure that substance traffickers face the rule of law, and when guilty, that the law will take its course on them.
He said this effort will bring about some level of stability and stop the menace that is causing havoc in society. Director General Souh says the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency is engaging all sectors to ensure that the needed logistics are provided to enable the agency to properly and effectively carry out its work across the nation.
The LDEA boss has described the issue of drugs as a “National Emergency.” Meanwhile, the Agency has pledged full support to the “Say No To Drugs” Campaign held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, where scores of citizens stormed the Capitol building to petition their lawmakers against the rampant drug situation in the country.
Officers of the LDEA also joined the long-awaited Citizens’ Call to Action “Say No To Drugs” awareness campaign and petition initiative. The organizers aimed at rallying citizens to petition lawmakers at the Capitol, calling for stronger actions against the rising wave of illicit drug activities in Liberia.
The Agency states that a key demand of the campaign is increased budgetary allocation for the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) to fight drugs effectively, and more robust measures under the law on traffickers to save Liberia’s youthful population victims
The LDEA earlier affirmed and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting this important awareness campaign and has extended its appreciation to the organizers for recognizing and including the needs of the LDEA in their petition, adding that they further encourage all Liberians to stand united in this ongoing fight, not just on the petition day, but continuously.
