Grand Kru County Senator Numene T. H Bartekwa has written the Plenary of the Liberian Senate for the termination of Atlantic Resources Concession operations in his county due to the company’s abandonment. In a communication dated Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Senator Bartekwa said the Concession Agreement between Atlantic Resources and the Government of Liberia was signed in 2009, allowing the company to conduct logging operations in both Grand Kru and Sinoe Counties.
“Madam Pro Tempore and Distinguished Colleagues, it becomes imperative that I inform this august body that Atlantic Resources Liberia Limited’s concession operations in Grand Kru County came to a standstill since 2016,” he said. Grand Kru County Senator said the company’s abandonment of its concession operations in the County demonstrates its unwillingness and diminished interest in operating.
According to him, despite several communications and meetings between the Company and County authorities, which were intended to encourage the resumption of operations, all has been to no avail.
He requested that the Liberian Senate take decisive action by terminating the operations of the Atlantic Resources Concession in Grand Kru County through de-ratification of its concession, thus giving other interested investors access to the forest in the county. Senator Bartekwa said he looks forward to the Senate’s timely action. A motion was filed to forward the communication to committees on Agriculture, Judiciary, Concession, and Investment, to report in two weeks.
