The Inspectorate Division at the Ministry of Labor through its Inspector General has called on Labour Minister Cooper Kruah to erect the necessary checkpoints around the country to curtail the growing waves of illegal inspections.

Speaking Tuesday, January 7, 2025 during a general staff review of 2024 at the Ministry of Labor, Inspector Charles Brown, said in 2024, a multitude of inspections was done unknowingly to the division that is responsible to carry on such a task, describing it as “harassment.”

“The inspectorate division is responsible for inspection in the Ministry Of Labor, but in 2024, we observed a multitude of inspections all over the place, some without any authorization from the minister or the Inspector General,” he said.

He said the inspection division in 2024 was one of the important departments within the ministry but observed low salary income of staffers.   The Inspector General at the Ministry of Labor said to fix the low salary problem in 2025, there’s a need for salary increment since the division is responsible to generate revenue.

He said once staffers are well paid, accountability and productivity will be the hallmark of the day. Responding, Minister Kruah assured employees that some of their recommendations will be addressed in the soonest possible time.

“Going forward, we will understand that each one of us will have to play a role that will help us to achieve something for the entire ministry,” he said.  Minister Kruah said some people outside of the ministry think that every employee is an inspector but plans are underway to change that narrative.

“This is a rescue mission that we are part of and we want to make sure that this mission succeeds. To succeed, it means that all of us have to play our part well,” the minister said.

The Minister of Labour also disclosed a plan for training, rehearsal and refresher courses for employees of the ministry. He said through collective efforts, the revenue collected by the Ministry of Labour in 2024 was in the tone of US$9,150,758.

During the general staff meeting, ministers and directors were given the opportunity to explain the challenges faced in their departments or divisions in 2024 and make recommendations for a better 2025.
