The Ministry of Labour, on ‘Special Presidential Mandate’, has launched a major verification exercise of strict compliance by foreign workers in possession of Valid Alien Work Permits, threatening tough punitive actions against non-compliant investment conglomerates.

A release issued in Monrovia on Sunday, June 8, 2025 said that the nationwide verification exercise is basically aimed at ensuring that foreign workers in possession of Valid Alien Work Permits are confined to performing specific job titles ascribed in their applications for the permits and that no qualified Liberians were readily available, through public service advertisements, at the time of occupying such jobs.

Labour Minister, Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, Sr., stressed in the release that three teams have been constituted, headed by senior Management personnel to cover  Monrovia on phase one of the Special Personnel Verification Exercise which will be later extended to the entire country. The entire campaign is expected to last for six months and key recommendations submitted by the teams will enable the Ministry to transition Liberians into the private sector labour market and create economic stimulus for the citizens, mainly the youthful population, in accordance with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s ARREST AGENDA’ which aims at alleviating poverty.

The Labour Minister then called on the teams to exercise maximum professionalism and refrain from compromising the essence of the exercise, describing it as a giant step in the Government’s drive to create employment opportunities for Liberians.

Meanwhile, Minister Kruah has expressed satisfaction over initial field reports from the teams, calling for cordial relationships between and among the Ministry teams and heads of investment companies, as well as business centers during the exercise.

All vital information required by the teams were sent to the targeted investment companies and business centers in advance of the launch of the ongoing exercise, the release outlined.
