Liberia’s Labour Minister Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, Sr., has urged all sectors of the Liberian society to lend full support to President Boakai’s ARREST AGENDA’, as the best formula to the country’s mounting development needs.

Minister Kruah emphasized that all pillars of The ARREST AGENDA, as conceived by President Boakai and his Rescue Mission Government, particularly on job creation, are intended to meet the overall development desires of the Liberian population. A Labour Ministry press release issued in Monrovia on Saturday, May 10, 2025, quotes Minister Kruah as making these remarks at his EJS Ministerial Complex office when he received ‘The Best Performing Minister of the year -2024 Award’ from a media group called ‘The Independent Journalists Network of Liberia’.

He said in fulfilling the job creation component of The ARREST AGENDA, his administration has begun a robust process of transitioning thousands of casual Liberian workers at several major investment conglomerates to full time employment status, with retroactive benefits and professional training opportunities. In addition,  several key managerial positions held by expatriates at major concessions across the country are being transitioned to qualified Liberian staff; thus, creating an environment for gradual control by  local workers who are equally entitled to just benefits of their labour and natural resources.

However, Minister Kruah cautioned Liberians working at these investment companies to avoid unnecessary industrial actions, including strikes, and instead use social dialogue and mediation in resolving workplace grievances, in line with the Decent Work Act and relevant statues of the ILO and international labour protocols, the release added.

Earlier, the Executive Director of The Independent Journalists Network of Liberia, Alex Williams, extolled Minister Kruah for what his organization called ‘his extra-exemplary skills in managing Liberia’s complex labour sector since the inception of the current government, thus, restoring peace and dignity among the workers.

The media advocate acknowledged Minister Kruah’s ongoing physical site inspection of the various concessions and ensuring strict compliance by management with the Liberian Labour Law. The Labour Ministry press release also quotes Mr. Williams was urging the Labour Ministry to improve on the current minimum wage to an appreciable standard for Liberian workers.

The ceremony ended with the media group gowning the Labour Minister. The colourful program was attended by scores of senior staff and employees of the Ministry, as well as leading civil society leaders.
