As part of Vice President Jeremiah Koung’s diplomatic visit to the People’s Republic of China, he met on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, with Mr. Zhou NaiXiang, the Governor of Shandong Province, along with various provincial leaders and representatives from the Shandong Port Authority. The purpose of this visit was to enhance bilateral relations and explore collaborative opportunities that could mutually benefit Liberia and Shandong Province.
During the visit, Vice President Koung took a guided tour of Qingdao Port, which is managed by the Shandong Port Group. Notably, Qingdao Port is home to the world’s first fully automated container terminal, making it a vital shipping hub in China and facilitating international trade. The port’s advanced infrastructure and operational efficiency underscore its significance in global logistics and commerce.
In his welcoming address, the President of the Shandong Port Group expressed respect for Vice President Koung’s visit, highlighting the potential for a partnership that could enhance Liberia’s port operations. He emphasized the importance of collaboration in fostering economic growth through the sharing of expertise and technological innovation.
During discussions with Governor Zhou NaiXiang, Vice President Koung emphasized the need to cultivate a strong and cordial relationship between Shandong and Liberia. He identified key sectors for investment, including trade, education, agriculture, and mining. The Governor assured Vice President Koung of Shandong Province’s keen interest in forming strategic partnerships aimed at strengthening Liberia’s economic landscape and facilitating sustainable development initiatives.
Accompanying Vice President Koung during the visit were Minister of Public Works Roland Giddings, PPCC Commissioner Bodger Scott Johnson, GSA Deputy Director General for Operations Robert Wilson, and Assistant Finance Minister for Budget Sarah Mulbah.
