Liberia’s Vice President, Jeremiah Kpan Koung, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to revitalizing agriculture as a cornerstone of the national ARREST Development Agenda.
The Vice President made the statement during a visit to his farm located near Ganta, Nimba County, where he toured sections of the expansive farmland with a variety of crops. He was accompanied by local leaders, farmers and media representatives.
His visit comes as part of a broader effort to promote food security and self-sufficiency under President Joseph N. Boakai’s ARREST Agenda, an acronym standing for Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation, and Tourism.
Koung emphasized the importance of agriculture, not only to Liberia’s economy but also to the empowerment of rural communities.
“Agriculture is at the heart of our development strategy. If we are to reduce poverty and ensure food security, we must invest in the soil and support our farmers. This farm is a symbol of what is possible when we prioritize agriculture,” he explained.
However, he called on Liberians, especially young people, to return to the land and view farming as a profitable and noble profession.
According to the Vice President, the government will continue to create an enabling environment through increased support, access to tools, and market linkages for farmers.
As Liberia continues its path toward sustainable development, the Vice President’s hands-on approach to agriculture is seen by many as a practical demonstration of leadership by example.
