The John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFKMC) will officially launch its Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) on Friday October 24, 2025. Speaking Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing, Daniel O. Sando, Deputy Minister for Press & Public Affairs, disclosed that this system is a digital initiative that transitions Liberia’s largest public hospital from paper-based records to a fully digitized “e-Hospital” platform.

He said the system is developed in partnership with Billing Tech Framework and implemented by ATX Technology. This platform, Sando explained, will enable a secured and faster access to patients’ data, automate hospital operations, and improve coordination among departments.  He added that the digitized e-Hospital platform will also enhance cyber security to protect sensitive health information. “It marks a historic move toward digital transformation in Liberia’s healthcare system aligning with global standards and improving efficiency in service delivery,” Sando told reporters.

In another development, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) and the Liberia Standards Laboratory, has announced an immediate ban on the sale, distribution, and consumption of a tomato paste product known as Episte Tom Tomato Mix, manufactured by a company based in Ghana. Sando disclosed that test confirmed that several batches of this product contained dangerously high levels of citric acid, undeclared additives, and poor labeling violating Liberia’s Public Health Law and Food Authority Act.

He said supermarkets and distributors are instructed to remove the product from their shelves immediately, and consumers who have already purchased it are strongly advised not to consume it but to return it to the point of sale. “This action demonstrates the government’s commitment to protecting public health and ensuring that all imported and locally produced food items meet established safety standards”, he stressed.
