Hardened criminals, who are either pretrial detainees or convicts serving their jail term at the Monrovia Central Prison, benefitted from feeding by former India Consul General, Upjit Singh Schdeva known as Jeety. Disadvantaged youth in Monrovia also benefitted from the gesture.

Jeety, who celebrated his birthday on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 saw the need for those prisoners and less fortunate folks to form part of the celebration.

Speaking to reporters at the Monrovia Central Prison, Jeety said about 1,476 inmates benefitted from the cooked food initiative by his company.

“I decided to celebrate my birthday with inmates and less fortunate people in society because they need help more than anyone,” he said.

Jeety said feeding inmates and less fortunate people give him hope indicating that doing so means he is doing God’s work.
He disclosed that he has been carrying out the initiative for the past eight years now.

The India Businessman said whenever there is a distribution of cooked food to disadvantaged youth in Liberia, it tells him that there is a need for humanitarian aid to help the government in rehabilitating them.

Jeety said his company serves cooked food to government hospitals daily and feeds disadvantaged youth in Monrovia, Kakata and Weala.

For his part, Monrovia Central Prison’s Superintendent, Varney Lake applauded Jeety for always identifying with inmates at the prison.

Mr. Lake said Jeety has always been a help to the prison. He urged Jeety to step up his humanitarian efforts as he celebrates another year.
