The leadership of the House of Representatives on Monday, June 2, 2025, welcomed a high-level Indian Parliamentary Delegation at the Capitol Building in Monrovia.  The multi-party delegation led by Dr. Shrikant Eknath Shinde, a sitting Member of Parliament of the Republic of India, accompanied by senior political figures and former diplomats, is on a mission to engage Liberian Government officials on global peace and security issues following recent developments in India.

During the courtesy visit, Dr. Shrikant E. Shinde outlined the Government of India’s position on the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, the ensuing Operation Sindoor, and subsequent regional security implications.

He strongly emphasized the urgent need for global collaboration in the fight against terrorism, citing the United Nations Security Council document SC/15971, issued January 21, which highlights the increasing threat of terrorism across Africa — including the activities of Boko Haram in Nigeria and Al-Shabaab in Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and Burkina Faso.

Dr. Shinde stressed the importance of deepened cooperation between India and Liberia to combat terrorism and uphold global peace and stability. For his part, House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit and reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and parliamentary relations with India.

Speaker Koon acknowledged the historic and long-standing ties between the two nations and reiterated Liberia’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism, as well as its support for India’s democratic principles.

“We look forward to greater collaboration and partnership between our two nations,” Speaker Koon stated. “Liberia remains a committed partner in promoting global peace and security, and we fully support India’s stance against terrorism.”

The meeting concluded on a high note, with both delegations pledging enhanced cooperation in areas of mutual interest, particularly in regional and global security, economic development, and parliamentary diplomacy.
