An elderly woman, identified as Fatumata Dulles, has raised concerns about the whereabouts of her son, Morris Siryon, following death threats on his life as a result of a land dispute with his uncles in Brewerville, Red Hill Field Community.
Speaking told this paper recently, Madam Dulles recalled on August 27, 2022, her son Morris Siryon and his uncles had some disagreements over a family land when they decided to exclude her family of ownership rights to the land on grounds that she is a female.
According to her, the properties and land were left behind by their family and that their Islamic traditional practice instructs that all properties, including land be awarded to men because they are usually left in the home as head to maintain legacy and inheritance.
Fatumata Dulles lamented as tears ran down her cheeks that she had conversations with her brothers on several occasions to provide her portion of the land and properties since they are struggling, but her brothers refused, something she said angered her son and he decided to advocate in the interest of the family.
“On August 27, 2022, there was a big land dispute between my son and three of his uncles. They have refused to give us our own family land in Brewerville, Red Hill Field Community. Due to the continuous advocacy by my son, terming their action against us as wicked and evil, one day, we had a family meeting regarding the matter. During the meeting, one of his uncles took an axe and attempted to hit my son on his neck,” she narrated.
Unfortunately, she explained that the uncle fell to the ground and was rushed to the hospital where the doctor pronounced him dead due to high blood pressure. “Following the pronouncement of my brothers’ death, the other two brothers accused my son of killing their brother and threatened to kill my son also,” she cried out.
She indicated that since then, her brothers have been in search of her son in retaliation for her brother’s death, adding that on one occasion, they, along with some gangsters at night, attacked her son and broke one of his legs. “They attacked my son and broke his leg and wrist. My son shouted for help from the community dwellers, but nobody came to his rescue. Later, he was rescued by somebody, who prevented them from killing him after noticing the person. My son was taken to the hospital for treatment, where he underwent an operation on his leg,’’ she noted.
Madam Dulles disclosed that her son’s life was still being threatened by his uncles while in the hospital, as they maintained killing him whenever he left the hospital.
She pointed out that due to the constant threats on her son’s life, he had to leave for Bakedu, Guinea in August 2022 and since then, she has not seen or heard from her son but has received information from friends that her son fled from Bakedu following another attempt on his life by his uncles.
‘’ I don’t need the property and my son does not know what happened to the properties. I had to return to Bakedu, and I still don’t have claims to the properties. Wherever my son is, I want to hear from him. I want to see my son living. I want them to protect him. Only his voice I want to hear.’’ She concluded.
