The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Grand Kru County Detachment has made two significant arrests in its ongoing crackdown on illegal drug trafficking and firearms possession.
Over the weekend, officers apprehended a Nigerian national in possession of heroin and precursor, as well as a Liberian citizen caught with compressed marijuana and illegal firearms. According to an LDEA release, Ama Eze, a 41-year-old Nigerian was arrested while attempting to transport illegal drugs to Pleebo, Maryland County by LDEA officers patrolling Plainview, Jlodeh Trenbo.
During the search of the suspect, the LDEA disclosed its officers several illicit drug substances including: 13 tubes of heroin weighing 142.6 grams and three plastics of precursor weighing 97.8 grams. The estimated street value of the arrested drug is put at US$3,573 (LRD $678,870), according to the LDEA.
Following his arrest, Eze was formally charged and sent to the Barclayville Magisterial Court for violating Sections 14.85 and 14.89 of the 2023 Amended Drug Law, which prohibits the illegal possession, sale, trade, and distribution of controlled substances.
In a separate operation on Saturday, February 22, 2025, LDEA officers, acting on a search and seizure warrant, raided the residence of Anthony Gray, a 56-year-old Liberian citizen in Parluken, Forpoh District.
The raid led to the discovery of 4½ plates of compressed marijuana weighing 3kg With the estimated value US$317 (LRD $60,230) and three long-range single-barrel guns and 7 cartridges, concealed in a bag.
Gray, the LDEA disclosed, has been charged and forwarded to the Barclayville Magisterial Court under the same 2023 Amended Drug Law. “The LDEA remains committed to dismantling drug networks and keeping illegal substances and firearms off the streets. These latest arrests serve as a strong warning to drug traffickers and criminals operating within Liberia,” added the release.
