House of Representatives Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon, along with Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah, and other lawmakers, led a high-powered delegation on a visit to the Camp Ramrod Barracks at the 72nd Junction, where residents have reportedly been affected by ongoing land reclamation activities carried out by the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL).
Also present during the visit was the Chief Executive Officer of the business entity Help Yourself, who appealed to the government and members of the Legislature to assist her with compensation that would enable her to reestablish her business after the area was declared property of the AFL.
The Chief of Staff of the AFL, Major General Davidson Forley, attended the engagement and was requested by Speaker Koon to allow the business owner temporary access to her business premises until Monday, February 9, 2026, while the House reviews the situation.
Major General Forley granted the request but cautioned that business operations should not continue during the period. He added that further decisions would be communicated in consultation with the Minister of National Defense. Commenting on demolitions taking place across the country, Speaker Koon emphasized that affected citizens would be considered in efforts to resolve such matters. He noted that public officials derive their authority from the people and therefore must speak and act on their behalf, as mandated by their elected responsibilities.
