The House of Representatives has ordered security agencies to provide a full briefing on the recent US$19.6 million cocaine seizure no later than June 29, 2026.

The directive came on Tuesday, June 16, during the House’s 11th day sitting of the 2nd quarter of the 3rd session of the 55th Legislature, following appearances by senior security and airport officials.

Speaking to Plenary yesterday, the Officer-in-Charge of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Fitzgerald Biago, said that investigators have intensified their efforts and that the case is being handled by the National Security Council. He identified Emmanuel Zeon as the man who transported the shipment to Roberts International Airport.

Biago informed lawmakers that CCTV footage has confirmed that Zeon delivered the consignment to the cargo warehouse before departing the country. He disclosed that Zeon is now wanted by law enforcement.

According to RIA Deputy Managing Director, John Buway, screeners flagged the cargo due to weight discrepancies. He said X-ray scans showed human hair in the cargo, but the images showed paint. That inconsistency prompted screeners to isolate the cargo and alert national security authorities. “That is where our responsibility stops,” Buway told the House.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Justice, Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, warned that the case has significant transnational dimensions tied to organized criminal networks outside Liberia. He cautioned that releasing names and details prematurely could alert suspects and lead to the destruction of evidence.
