The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) says it has arrested a 44-year-old Guinean identified as David Dioumessy at Bo Waterside in Grand Cape Mount County with a huge quantity of cocaine worth over US$125,000.00.
Speaking Friday, February 14, 2025 at the LDEA Headquarters in Monrovia, the LDEA Director General Atty. Anthony Souh said that suspect Dioumessy was arrested on February 8, 2025 at 10:00 a.m by officers’ assigned at Bo Waterside.
The suspect was arrested with a Guinean issued ECOWAS passport number 001070389, with a suitcase containing 2.34 kilograms the substance at the street value of 126,846.00 which is equivalent to US$24,734,970.
Atty. Souh also told journalists that suspect Dioumessy was arrested while attempting to escape the warehouse in order to avoid being searched by LEAD officers. The suspect is currently in custody undergoing investigation.
Meanwhile, he assured the public of the agency’s commitment to the fight of drug trafficking, substance abuse and drug crimes, as the LDEA strives to make Liberia a drug free nation.
The suspect admitted to having been in possession of the drug, but said it was intended for transport to Ivory Coast, not Liberia, and it was his time to transport drugs.
The suspect said since he was arrested, he had not spoken to the owner of the drug. “I have not been into the drug business before; this is my first time. I am a tailor by profession,” suspect Dioumessy said while in an interview with journalists.
