Government-Clarifies-Half-truth

Hours after instructing workers at the Ministry of Internal Affairs to assemble at the Robert International Airport to welcome President Joseph N. Boakai to Liberia, the Acting Minister of the Ministry Samuel F. Brown has termed the information as inaccurate despite signing the instruction.

In a memorandum, Minister Peters said, “By directive of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. F. Sakila Nyumah Sr., all staff of the Ministry are to assemble at the Roberts International Airport on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, commencing at 12 noon to give our President, Joseph N. Boakai an arousing welcome from official duties on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia.”

The memorandum further informed the employees that buses will be made available to transport them to and fro the Robert International Airport. But speaking through a press statement after the directive had come under severe public criticisms, Minister Brown said the information spreading on social media is misleading.

According to him, “It is important to clarify that only senior staff and members of the National Council of Chiefs of Liberia who are also staff of the Ministry and are responsible for traditional welcome ceremonies are requested to attend this particular event, and not the entire workforce of the Ministry as it is widely being spread on social media.”

The Acting Minister said the entire ministry is not staying away from work as a means of welcoming the President back to the country and civil servants must fulfil and continue to do the work of the Liberian people at all times.

However, he said it is crucial to ensure that correct information is disseminated to avoid any misunderstandings or misinterpretations. The Minister added that only cultural troops, traditional singers, members of the National Council of Chiefs of Liberia and members of the senior management team of the Ministry were asked to be at the airport.
