Liberia’s Finance Minister, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan has rallied Liberians in the Diaspora to take advantage of ongoing initiatives by the Liberian government to improve the country. Speaking Saturday, September 27, 2025 at day two of the Inaugural Liberia Annual Diaspora Conference in Washington D.C., United States of America, Minister Ngafuan said that the Boakai-Koung government has lots of initiatives, more tangible ones to attract Liberians back home.

The Minister called on Diaspora Liberians to take advantage of the U.S Development Financing Corporation (DFC), to invest in Liberia especially at low rates level and threshold.

According to him, the government is deliberate and Intentional to increase American Business footprint in Liberia and is working with the World Bank through the International Financing Corporation. Minister Ngafuan told the gathering at the Liberia Diaspora conference in Washington that the DFC has some finances for agribusiness and other opportunities.

“You may not be able to get all the funds, but funds are available to leverage. The Central Bank of Liberia is working with the payment switch,” he stated. Amongst other things, the Minister pointed out that the initiative enables one to sit anywhere to do transactions.

Minister Ngafuan acknowledged that there are challenges, but the government is working gradually to help resolve the problems. Speaking more about the payment switch, Minister Ngafuan said unlike before, the port now has a night service up to 10pm; even though it’s not 24 hours but he noted it is a good start, as the payment period over time will swing.

Ngafuan, “The payment switch is on, we are taking a baby step and in October, we will see the two GSM providers, Orange Liberia and Lonestar Cell MTN inter- corporate especially in the transfer of mobile and orange monies respectively.” At the same time, he assured the gathering that the government, through the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, is digitizing the economy and tirelessly to help improve the country’s economy.
