The Government of Liberia through the National Food Assistance Agency (NFAA) has begun its ‘Food Aid to the Vulnerable’ project for the festive season of Christmas and New Year.

The project targets beneficiaries of five institutions of the needy in and around Monrovia with several food items, mostly home-grown food products such as bags of cassava flakes, plantains, country rice, gallons of palm oil, amongst other food items.

Making the presentation of the food items at the Center for Rehabilitation and Reintegration in Paynesville City on Friday December 6, 2024, the Director General of NFAA Borkai A.M. Sirleaf said Government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID) is a national vision for the welfare of all citizens especially the vulnerable and food-insecure sections of the nation’s population.

DG Sirleaf said it’s based on President Boakai’s vision of thinking, loving and building Liberia, that state institutions like NFAA have been empowered to think about the plights of residents of the Center for Rehabilitation and Reintegration.

He said the food distribution exercise would take place at several other centers of the needy before the close of the festive season. “Just like all other citizens, we want you to feel a part of your country and be happy for this season as we hope and pray for your speedy rehabilitation to be meaningful citizens,” DG Sirleaf said.

Receiving the food items, management and beneficiaries of the center expressed heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the leadership of NFAA in separate remarks.

The beneficiaries said the donation would be recorded as the first significant goodwill gesture from outside since the establishment of the center. “You have demonstrated the attributes of a government that is responsible and cares for its downtrodden people; don’t stop there; continue your good work,” they said.
