In a continued effort to safeguard the future of Liberia’s children and reduce harmful child labor, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has delivered a substantial consignment of food and non-food items to vulnerable families in the Rock Crusher Community.

According to a press release dated June 30, 2025, the latest intervention is part of the Government’s flagship initiative, the Support A Child, Save The Future Project, which prioritizes rescuing children from exploitative conditions, particularly those involved in hazardous work such as rock crushing.

At a lively distribution ceremony held in the community, residents gathered as the Ministry team handed over bags of rice and several other materials to dozens of households.  The items are intended to ease the economic pressure on families that often drives children into hard labor and to encourage parents to keep their children in school.

Speaking at the event, a representative of the Ministry emphasized the Government’s resolve to restore child dignity and improve the well-being of children across Liberia. The Rock Crusher Community has long been identified as a hotspot for child labor due to extreme poverty and limited livelihood options.

The ministry’s intervention is not just about providing aid; it’s about restoring hope and dignity to families while laying the foundation for children to thrive in safer environments. The Support A Child, Save The Future Project, launched in August 2024 by H.E. President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, aims to identify, rescue, and reintegrate children living in high-risk conditions. It also supports families with livelihood alternatives and educational opportunities to prevent children from returning to the streets or hazardous work.

Several parents in the Rock Crusher Community expressed gratitude for the support. For them, the help means everything. The Ministry plans to continue working with partners to scale up its interventions across other high-risk communities in Montserrado and beyond, as part of its broader rescue, rehabilitate, and reintegrate strategy for vulnerable children.

This latest move reaffirms the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that no child’s future is crushed by poverty or neglect. Instead, with sustained support and community collaboration, Liberia’s children can be lifted from hardship to opportunity, one household at a time.

Recently, a team from the project visited the Rock Crusher Community and engaged with several parents whose children are involved in rock-crushing activities. During the visit, the team documented the number of children affected, identified their caregivers, and gathered other relevant information to inform future interventions.
