A former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia, Francis S. Korkpor has refuted report linking him to a ploy to obtain a warrant to search the home of former President George Weah. In its Thursday, August 22, 2024 edition of FrontPage Africa (FPA) Newspaper quoting reliable sources close to the Executive Mansion that the Ministry of Justice, acting on the advice of President Joseph Boakai’s legal advisor Bushuben Keita and retired Chief Justice Francis Korkpor, requested a search warrant to search the home of former President George Weah.

However in a statement over the weekend, the former Chief Justice termed the publication as far from the truth, clarifying that he is not a member of the President’s legal team. He said at no time did the President ask him to associate with his legal team nor has the President’s legal advisor requested him to form a part of his team.

“He has never asked me to be a part of his legal team; neither am I associating or collaborating with the Ministry of Justice and the President’s Legal Advisor, Counselor Bushuben Keita in prosecuting or defending any matter involving the State,” former Chief Korkpor said in the statement.

Korkpor further clarified that he has made no request to any court either by himself, or in association with others for a search warrant to search the home of former President George Weah as was falsely reported.

“I should say, though, that on April 22, 2024, President Boakai reappointed me to the Board of Directors of ArcelorMittal Holdings (Concessionaire) as Representative of the Government of Liberia,” Korkpor asserts.

According to him, he has since accepted the appointment and expressed gratitude to the President for the nomination.  “I hope this is not mistaken as representing the President on legal matters…The author of the story, Gerald C. Koineyeh, said that the Minister of Justice did not respond to FPA queries. I wonder why he did not also contact me, for had he done so he would have gotten my side of the story,” he concluded.
