The Protecting Biodiversity through law enforcement and community-let initiatives (PROBIO) a project funded by the European Union has commenced a ten day short-term course on Conservation and Forestry Reporting for over 40 Liberian Journalists.

The training is currently taken place at the Forestry Training Institute (FTI) Compound in Tubmansburg, Bomi County in Western Liberia. The training which kick-off from May 20, will end on 29 May 2024.

The training is a short-term course that relates to forestry. It is intended to enlighten the minds of journalists by educating them on the importance of Forestry Management.

During the opening of the weeklong European Union implementing project, Dr. Annika Hillers, Country Director of Wild Chimpanzee Foundation, shared knowledge about Forestry Management, Protection of Wildlife and the Conservation of species, which according to her is essential to forest Management.

Dr. Hillers said the importance of the preservation of the forest is key and it prevent harms against wildlife.

She is calling on stakeholders, implementing partners to rally support for a better coordination; describing it as key to the realization for a better conservation and protection of the forest.

Hillers, who highlighted the significant and preservation of the Liberian Forest, encouraged journalists attending the training to help in revealing the need for the protection of the forest and endanger species.

She mentioned that the protective area in forestry management is essential to continuous surveillance, effective and regular law enforcement.

The 10 days training is being supported by the Forestry Development Authority (FDA), the Nature Compact, Wild Chimpanzee Foundation, the Forestry Training Institute (FTI), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Elephant Research and Conservation (ELRECO), among others.
