Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of women’s participation in decision-making processes and the need for greater representation in national governance.  ‎Speaking at the Liberty Party’s International Women’s Day program in Monrovia, Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti said men should give women a chance to develop Liberia, having been placed in the background for too long, even with a proven record of taking care of things.

‎Minister Nyanti said women have long been relegated to the background in governance and leadership matters, and it was time for men to step aside and allow them to take their rightful place at the forefront of national development. “Women possess the innate ability to manage resources, nurture communities, and drive societal change,” she said, emphasizing the unique perspectives and skills that women bring to leadership roles.

‎The Foreign Minister advocated for a significant increase in women’s representation within the national legislature, proposing that at least 30% of seats should be occupied by women. She argued that such representation is not just a matter of equity; it is essential for fostering genuine and sustainable development across the country. “When women are included in decision-making processes, we see a more holistic approach to governance that benefits everyone,” Nyanti noted, underscoring the positive impact that gender diversity can have on policy-making and community welfare. The gathering brought together professional women from different backgrounds and political institutions, throwing light on their diverse journeys and echoing the calls for women to stand up and be champions for change.
