Fifteen employees of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry (MoCI) have completed a two-week seminar in Industrial Clustering and Investment Promotion in the People’s Republic of China.
According to a press release dated June 17, 2025, the seminar was held in Haikou City, Hainan Province, China, under the auspices of the International Cooperation and Exchange Center- an institution directly under the Department of Commerce of Hainan Province.
The seminar was graced by government officials, experts, scholars, and managers of related enterprises in Liberia who are engaged in industrial clustering, investment promotion, and related activities.
The release states that Industrial Clustering and Investment Promotion training covered ten core areas, including commercial logistics, regional economic development, industrial clustering, and investment promotion management. Others are smart commerce, trade facilitation, green trade, and the creation of a legalized business environment, amongst others.
As indicated in the overview of the program, in January 2014, the training center gained the approval of the Ministry of Commerce and became a “MOC Training Base for International Business Officials. In recent years, commissioned by the Ministry of Commerce, the center has organized over one hundred of China-aid seminars and training courses for thousands of English-Spanish-French, Portuguese-Russian, Arabic-Cambodian, Laos-Vietnamese, and other language-speaking participants from nearly 100 countries and regions.
While in China, the Commerce Ministry employees and their colleagues visited several Chinese cities, including Qionghai and Sanya, Hainan Province, Shanghai Municipality, and Suzhou, Jiangsu Province.
Considering the rich training history and professional background of the institution that facilitated the seminar, it is expected that the MoCI employees will use the skills acquired in the interest of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, in particular, and Liberia at large.
Meanwhile, Commerce & Industry Minister Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh has commended the Chinese government for the numerous capacity-building opportunities it continues to afford Liberians.
Minister Dagoseh, who was recently in China to participate in a seminar organized by the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce, has repeatedly spoken about the benefits of the cooperation that continues to exist between Liberia and the People’s Republic of China, making reference to Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf Ministerial Complex, the Fendell Campus of the University of Liberia, scholarships and training programs, among others, as testaments of Liberia’s partnership with China.
