The Executive Mansion, through its Presidential Press Secretary, Attorney Kula Fofana, has clarified that the two 2025 Lexus LX 700HR Super Ultar Luxury SUV vehicles purchased for the presidency was based on the Executive Protection Service (EPS) recommendation.
Speaking Friday, April 4, 2025 during the Executive Mansion regular press briefing in Monrovia, Atty. Kula alleged that due to the turning over of old vehicles by the former government to the current government, the security service of the presidency recommended the purchase of new vehicles for the president’s safety, stating that there was always breakdown of the President’s Convoy.
According to her, the vehicle presented by the past government were in a bad conditions and had led to some embarrassments for President Joseph Nyuma Boakai on many occasions.
“The President’s vehicles broke down while on his way from Grand Cape Mount County last year, following his (President Boakai) return from the opening of the National County Sports Meet last year,” she narrated.
However, Liberia’s Presidential Press Secretary declaimed to disclosed the actual cost of the two new vehicles, saying, matters relating to the purchase of the vehicles remain with the EPS.
Atty. Kula, “I don’t know why people are complaining, because when President Boakai leaves office, he will turnover everything to the next administration. The cars are for the Presidency not for President Boakai’s personal use.”
Recently, the Office of the Presidency was in the news lines of the media and social media influencers for the wrong reason amid broken promise as report emerged that President Boakai is now riding in a 2025 Lexus LX 700HR Super Ultra Luxury SUV.
The controversy, which has since sparked public outrage, was triggered by a post from popular political activist Martin K. N. Kollie on Friday, March 28, 2025 under the titled: “Opulence.”
