Liberia’s infamous former warlord turned evangelist, Milton Blahyi famously    knowing as General Butt Naked, is sounding the alarm on the country’s drug abuse epidemic.  Speaking at his Journey Against Violence Rehabilitation Center on Saturday, September 6, 2025, he urged President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to take immediate and drastic measures to combat the crisis.

‎ Evangelist Blahyi’s plea comes as Liberia struggles to contain the spread of drug abuse among its youth. The former warlord, once notorious for his brutal tactics during Liberia’s civil war, has since dedicated his life to helping former child soldiers and drug addicts. Blahyi emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that the future leaders of Liberia are “fading away” due to drug abuse. He called on President Boakai to effect the toughest steps necessary to curtail the drug epidemic and protect the nation’s youth.

‎The Liberian government has acknowledged the drug abuse epidemic, with President Boakai declaring it a national health emergency. However, Blahyi and other critics argue that more needs to be done to address the crisis. As Liberia grapples with the drug abuse epidemic the agency responsible for combating drugs continue to suffer leadership change due to ineffectiveness of the Drug Enforcement Agency, the president has appointed an interim management team to run the entity for a period of 90 days in order to minimize the proliferation of drugs across Liberia. Blahyi’s words serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for action, hoping that President Boakai heeds to the call and takes decisive action to protect Liberia’s youths that are falling every single day from drugs.
