The curtains fell Friday on the fourth edition of the Emmett A. Dennis Scientific Conference in Monrovia, with dozens of emerging scientists expressing renewed determination to emulate the distinguished legacy of Dr. Emmett A. Dennis, former University of Liberia President and celebrated biomedical scientist.

The three-day gathering brought together researchers, academics, and students from Liberia and the African region, showcasing groundbreaking scientific papers and innovations aimed at addressing national and global challenges. During the close of the conference on Friday, September 19, 2025, Dr. Julius S.M Gilayeneh, NPHIL Deputy Director General for Technical Service, hailed Dr. Dennis for his significant contributions made to the public health and research.

“Despite not being a public health celebrity, Dr. Dennis’ impact on the scientific and research community is acknowledge,” he said.

Gilayeneh also encouraged emerging scientists to aspire to be like Dr. Dennis; suggesting that they too could invent life-saving drugs or contribute significantly to public health. Participants hailed the conference as not just an academic exchange, but also a beacon of mentorship, motivating the next generation to follow in the footsteps of Dr. Dennis, who is credited for advancing science and higher education in Liberia.

Speakers at the closing ceremony underscored the importance of research in nation-building, urging government, partners, and private institutions to increase investment in science and technology. For many of the young scientists, the conference was more than a professional forum—it was an inspiration.

“Dr. Dennis’s story proves that science can change lives and build nations. I want to be like him,” said one participant. The Emmett A. Dennis Conference, now in its fourth edition, has become a flagship platform for nurturing talent, fostering collaboration, and preserving the legacy of one of Liberia’s most revered scientific minds.
