The Minister of Education, Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, on Friday, August 15, 2025 joined dignitaries at the Peace Corps–Liberia Swearing-In Ceremony held at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, marking the formal induction of a new cohort of Peace Corps Volunteers.

According to an Education Ministry release, these volunteers will serve in communities across Liberia, supporting national efforts in education and health.  The ceremony, a longstanding Peace Corps tradition, officially marks their transition from trainees to full-fledged volunteers.

The Peace Corps first arrived in Liberia in 1962, launching initiatives in education, health, and rural development. Over the decades, the partnership has endured through challenges, including the civil conflict and Ebola crisis, and continues to play a key role in national development.

President Joseph Nyumah Boakai commended the Peace Corps for its lasting contributions and expressed appreciation to the U.S. Government for its continued support. Minister Jallah, speaking on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia, thanked the Peace Corps for its enduring service.

She emphasized the importance of aligning efforts with the Government’s ARREST Agenda, which prioritizes quality, equity, and innovation in education, particularly in STEM, English, science subjects, and digital literacy. “Your decision to dedicate your time, skills, and energy to serve in our communities speaks volumes about your commitment to humanity and the values of service, solidarity, and partnership,” she stated.

Mr. Joseph Zadrozny, U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires and former Peace Corps Volunteer, highlighted the organization’s role as a symbol of friendship and mutual respect. Madam Vernice Irene Guthrie, Peace Corps–Liberia Country Director, applauded the collaboration between the Peace Corps, the Liberian Government, and local communities, and recognized the dedication of her staff and training team.
