Normal academic activities were halted on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, when members of the Student Unification Party (SUP) staged a protest on the Fendell Campus of the University of Liberia. The demonstration, led by SUP Chairman Sylvester Wheeler, sought to draw the attention of the university’s administration and the government to what the students described as “growing challenges” affecting learners across various campuses.
According to the protesters, many instructors have been inconsistent in holding lectures since the resumption of normal academic activities— a situation they say has resulted in a serious decline in lesson delivery and student performance. The students appealed to the administration to increase the number of campus buses to alleviate transportation difficulties faced by students traveling between campuses.
Protesters also accused the university president of neglecting student welfare, alleging that she prioritizes personal interests over institutional needs. They expressed discontent over the administration’s failure to issue identification cards, despite students having already paid the required fees.
Adding to their grievances, the students highlighted the poor state of restroom facilities on the Fendell Campus. They claimed that while thousands of students are forced to use nearby bushes due to the lack of functioning toilets, the university president enjoys a private restroom in her office.
