Dillon Accuses Boakai…Of Aiding Violation of Asset Declaration

Dillon-Accuses-Boakai-Of-Aiding-Violation-of-Asset-Declaration

Montserrado County Senator Darius Dillon says President Joseph N. Boakai is supporting the violation of assets declaration by some government officials. It can be recalled that during a recent cabinet retreat, President Boakai encouraged government officials to do their assets declaration and instructed officials holding party positions to resign from either of the posts.

But speaking Monday, October 14, 2024 on ELBC Radio, Senator Dillon said President Boakai should have sacked or suspended government officials that have refused to declare their assets, rather he is pleading with them.

He said asset declaration is the first step to prove that the government wants to be accountable and balanced, citing the need for the President to take action against non-compliant asset declarers of his government.

The Montserrado County Senator said within the past nine months of the Unity Party led-administration, those officials holding party positions should have resigned long ago, as the Code of Conduct states that once an individual holding party position is appointed to a government office by the president, he must immediately resign his post in the party.

“Those Lawmakers that have refused to declare their assets can be punished by the people that elected them. If 20,000 people gather at the Legislature and put pressure on those that have not declared their assets, they will be serious about doing that because we cannot be making law and refusing to abide by it,” Dillon said.

Commenting on the resignation of former Commerce Minister Amin Modad over the purchasing of a luxury vehicle, Senator Dillon said Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) Commissioner General Dorbor Jallah should be questioning himself because he knew that MedTech Scientific is under investigation about their activities in Liberia.

Dillon said former the Commerce Minister and Jallah signed a joint advisory for President Boakai to keep MedTech knowing very well that the company is under probe. He said both Modad and Jallah teamed up to get funding from MedTech to buy a vehicle for the former Commerce Minister and that is indescribable. However, he said that the LRA Commissioner will be brought before the Liberian Senate upon their return to Senate for the third quarter sitting.
