The Alternative National Congress (ANC) has issued a scorching attack on the Liberian government’s handling of the country’s escalating fight against drugs, calling on authorities to take immediate and uncompromising action against those involved. Political Leader Alexander Cummings told residents and disadvantaged youth in the Township of West Point on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 that authorities should go after the ‘big fishes’ who he claims are profiting from drug importation, rather than turning a blind eye while vulnerable communities suffer.

“There’s always money for lavish trips and luxury cars, but never enough to fight the drug war,” he said, accusing the government of misplaced priorities. Cummings called for urgent investment in border patrol, customs, and the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency, stressing that these frontline institutions must be empowered to intercept narcotics and dismantle trafficking networks.

Beyond enforcement, he appealed to civil society and well-meaning individuals to restore hope through rehabilitation, skills training, and empowerment programs for those trapped in addiction. Cummings’ remarks come amid growing public frustration over the government’s slow response to Liberia’s deepening drug crisis, which has ravaged communities and overwhelmed social services.
