“The proliferation and abuse of illicit drugs stand today as one of the gravest national threats confronting Liberia. It endangers our youth, undermines our communities, and poses a direct risk to national security. Confronting this crisis requires the full support of every Liberian. Together, we must build a society free from the devastating scourge of drugs,” Fitzgerald T.M. Biago, Officer-in-Charge of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency, stated as he took over affairs of LDEA.

Speaking Monday, September 1, 2025 at the official handover ceremony in Monrovia, Biago said he is aware of the challenges that lie ahead as he takes charge. “Yet, we are equally confident that with determination, discipline, and collective effort, we shall overcome these challenges and restore the dignity, integrity, and effectiveness of this noble institution,” he assured.

He disclosed that in the coming days, LDEA will intensify its operations and pursue the sources of drug trafficking and distribution with renewed vigor and without fear or favor.  “And to all drug traffickers, distributors, and those who profit from the destruction of lives, consider this your final warning. The LDEA will come after you with the full weight of the law. There will be no hiding place. We will pursue you relentlessly, prosecute you vigorously, and ensure that justice is served. The time of impunity is over,’ LDEA Officer-in-Charge warns.

He promised that the LDEA will work closely with the Liberia National Police and all members of the Joint Security in every operation. “Let it be made clear; time is running out for those involved in illicit drug trafficking, distribution, and abuse. The LDEA will employ every lawful means to restore sanity and safeguard the future of our beloved nation,” he stressed as his dismissed predecessors and other senior security men listened

As though his message at the handover ceremony was not enough, Biago subsequently held a press conference announcing a national drug test for LDEA officers. The Head of the Interim Management Team at LDEA declares zero tolerance for corruption and drug trafficking.‎ Biago, a deputy police commissioner, said the fight against drugs must begin with men and women of the LDEA, stressing the need for citizens to cooperate. He called for partnership with the Liberian media in helping the interim management team with information.
