Liberia’s law enforcement capacity received a significant boost on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, as the Government of the People’s Republic of China formally handed over supplies to the Liberia National Police (LNP). The gesture is rooted in high-level commitments made by President’s Xi Jinping and Joseph N. Boakai during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

The China-Aid Police Supplies Project, which includes uniforms, motorcycles and interphones, is to enhance the LNP’s mobility, communication and operational readiness, particularly in field operations, community policing, and rapid response.

Speaking at the event, Chinese Ambassador YIN Chenwu described the donation as a demonstration of China’s support for Liberia’s law enforcement institutions and a recognition of the sacrifices made daily by police officers to keep communities safe.  “Law enforcement officers are the guardians of the community, noting that effective policing requires not only dedication but also the right tools and resources,” he added.  YIN narrated that the donation also aligns with the Liberian government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, under which public security is viewed as a cornerstone of national stability, rule of law, and economic growth.

According to him, the supplies will help strengthen public safety and contribute to a secure environment that serves the fundamental interests of the Liberian people.

For his part, Police Inspector General Gregory O.W. Coleman highlighted the handover as evidence of the growing China–Liberia strategic partnership, pointing to years of cooperation in law enforcement, including training programs for Liberian officers in China and the dedication of a Fingerprint Examination Laboratory equipment project in 2024. The Chinese Ambassador and Police Chief Coleman reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation between China and the Liberia National Police, emphasizing mutual trust, shared development goals and partnership.
