The Bishop of the Catholic Church in Liberia, His Grace Rev. Dr. Gberial Blamo Snosio Jubew, has called for fostered unity amongst priests within the Archdiocese of Monrovia in the discharge of their sacred duties. The Archbishop made the call during the annual Chrism Mass held on Wednesday, April 15, 2025 at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Monrovia.

Renewing their priestly vows, he emphasized the importance of unity among the clergy, urging them to uphold their vows with renewed commitment and to serve in harmony with one another for the spiritual growth of the Church and the faithful. “This vow reminds us of our common mission. “But more than ever, I call on all priests to be more united, in spirit, in service, and in purpose. Only in unity can we be true shepherds of Christ’s flock,” Archbishop Jubwe added.

The Catholic Archbishop said, “Our people are looking to us for leadership, not only in the sacraments but in our example. Let unity begin with us.” The Chrism Mass, traditionally celebrated during the Holy Week of Easter, is a solemn liturgy in which the Archbishop blesses the oils used for the sacraments throughout the year, including the Oil of the Sick, the Oil of Catechumens, and the Sacred Chrism.

During the Mass, dozens of priests renewed their priestly vows before the Archbishop and a congregation filled with lay faithful, religious sisters, seminarians, and members of the Catholic community.“Unity among us is vital,” he said. “It reminds us that we are not serving in isolation but as one body of Christ,” he added. Archbishop Jubwe is encouraging priests to model Christ’s humility and selflessness, especially in times of challenges and divisions.

The event also marked a moment of reflection and rededication as the Church prepares for the Easter celebration.  The Chrism Mass is one of the most significant liturgical events of the Catholic calendar and sets the spiritual tone for the Easter Triduum.
