The Liberia College of Physicians and Surgeons is expected to confer an honorary doctorate degree on President Joseph N. Boakai for his many contributions to that institution. The Secretary General of the college, Dr. Philderald Pratt, said the ceremony will take place during the 8th Convocation Annual General Meeting of the institution.

Addressing a press conference in Congo Town recently, Dr. Pratt said that the faculty of the institution will also confer Medical Doctor Degrees on 17 Liberians who have successfully completed requirements of the institution.

He said graduates are from the four faculties; including internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, family medicine and surgery.   According to Dr. Pratt, Dr. Emmanuel Akimi, the President of the West African College of Physicians and Surgeons based in Nigeria, is expected to deliver the keynote at the convocation.

Dr. Pratt described doctors at the various hospitals as researchers taking notes of pertinent results or trends within the society that they will want to share with their colleagues

Representatives from colleges of physicians and surgeons from the West African sub region are also expected to grace the occasion and share their experiences.

Members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of international nongovernmental organizations in the health sectors will also be in attendance. The scientific meeting will endeavor to bring together the largest number of medical professionals, very important personalities and high profile personalities.

During the meeting, members are expected to present scientific papers, discuss issues regarding experiences and partners will also bring fraternal greetings.

The Secretary General of the College of Physicians and Surgeons said some of the presentations will help develop a strategy or a roadmap in tackling some of the unforeseeable high rates in cases of certain diseases. “Based on the research,” he went on, “the meeting can use the findings of the research for the betterment of the public after sharing such results with other colleagues.”

The scientific meeting, which will be graced by medical doctors, scientists, representatives of international organizations, officials of government and members of the diplomatic corps, will be held under the theme: “Making Postgraduate Medical Training in Liberia More Impactful.
