In an emotional tribute to the late Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Sylvester M. Grigsby, President Joseph N. Boakai described his longtime friend and former schoolmate as a “trusted friend and loyal servant” during a solemn funeral service in the United States of America.

The Liberian leader, who tribute was delivered by his son, Joseph Boakai Jr., on Saturday, August 30, 2025, expressed deep sorrow and recounted Grigsby’s unwavering dedication to Liberia and his invaluable counsel throughout their decades-long friendship.

The President said Grigsby was not just a colleague, but a confidant whose wisdom shaped many of his decisions.

“Today, we bid farewell to a man of honor, integrity, and humility. Grigsby was more than a minister; he was a trusted ally who believed in service above self. Liberia has lost a patriot, and I have lost a dear friend,” President Boakai said with a heavy heart,” he added.

The funeral was marked by tears, prayers, and reflections on a life dedicated to public service. As the casket was lowered, tributes echoed the same sentiment: Liberia has lost a statesman whose legacy will live on.

Minister Grigsby passed away earlier this month after a period of illness, leaving behind a grieving family, a nation in mourning, and a legacy of humility, loyalty, and service to country.

The late Grigsby, who served as Minister of State for Presidential Affairs under the current administration, had a long history of public service, including diplomatic assignments and senior-level advisory roles.

Government officials, family members, and close friends gathered in the U.S. on Saturday to celebrate the life of Minister Grigsby, who served Liberia in various capacities for decades. Many described him as a man of peace, diplomacy, and patriotism who worked tirelessly for national unity and progress.
