Boakai Applauds NPA…On Progress, Strategic Vision For Liberia’s Ports

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has commended the leadership of the National Port Authority (NPA) for the proactive approach to modernizing port operations, reaffirming his administration’s support of initiatives that enhance infrastructure, governance and economic growth. According to an Executive Mansion press release, the President made these statements when he received a 14-month performance report from the NPA leadership outlining key achievements and strategic plans for Liberia’s port infrastructure.

He praised the NPA’s efforts in improving operational efficiency and pledged his government’s full backing to ensure Liberia’s ports are competitive within the West African Region.

“The NPA serves as the gateway to Liberia’s economy. Its efficiency and development are essential to our country’s economic viability,” President Boakai stated. He went on to add that, “My administration remains committed to supporting the NPA in achieving world-class standards that will facilitate trade, attract investment, and drive national progress.”

During the meeting, NPA Managing Director Sekou H. Dukuly presented a comprehensive review of the NPA’s achievements, challenges and financial performance over the past year.

He also outlined strategic reforms aimed at upgrading and modernizing all ports across the country to meet international standards and support Liberia’s economic growth. Mr. Dukuly emphasized the NPA’s dedication to transparency, accountability and operational excellence, highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen the maritime sector.

“Our leadership is focused on infrastructure development and modernization, ensuring that Liberia’s ports operate efficiently, reduce costs and improve service delivery,” he noted.

Additionally, MD Dukuly informed President Boakai of the NPA’s review of existing contracts and concessions, particularly the APM Terminals Concession, to ensure transparency, competitiveness, and alignment with the Government’s goal of fostering a business-friendly environment.

The meeting was attended by Mr. J. Luther Tarpeh, Chairman of the NPA Board of Directors, Mr. James Barnard, Deputy Managing Director for Administration, and Mr. Julius Goodin, Board Member (Former DMO, now retired).

Other senior NPA officials present were the Executive Director for Governmental & International Affairs, Mr. Sekou B. Korleh and the Senior Director/Training Department, Ms. Raquel Clinton.

The President hopes that the NPA remains committed to implementing international best practices, enhancing Liberia’s port infrastructure and playing a pivotal role in sustainable economic growth.
