Senior former security experts have described the statements made by a group known as the CDC-Council of Patriots (CDC-CoP) as baseless and unfounded. They accused the Commissioner General Designate of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), Elijah Rufus, of being linked to ritualistic killings.
The former security experts expressed their dismay over the brutal manner in which individuals have been killed, emphasizing the need for the CDC-CoP to provide any alleged evidence to the Liberia National Police, which is responsible for investigating and prosecuting crimes against individuals in Liberia.
They stated, “While we welcome investigations into the mysterious deaths of Keleko and Moisemai, it would also be prudent for the CDC-CoP to call on the Liberia National Police to revisit cold cases, including those of EPS Agent Melvin Earley and auditors Gifty Lama, Albert Peters, George Famboto, Emmanuel Barten Nyeswa, and Matthew Innis from the Central Bank of Liberia.”
According to spokesperson Sam Gbor, the CDC-CoP did not act when many prominent Liberians were killed mysteriously under the George Weah-led administration, which they supported. Therefore, they lack the credibility to call upon the Liberian Senate to demand an immediate halt to the confirmation hearing of Elijah Rufus as Commissioner General of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS).
“This so-called group insists that no confirmation should proceed until a thorough investigation is conducted into his alleged involvement in the mysterious deaths of Keleko and Moisemai, despite claiming to have evidence related to these incidents,” the former security personnel stated.
They urged the Liberia National Police to invite the CDC-CoP to provide evidence linking Elijah Rufus to these killings. The former security members also questioned why the CDC-CoP has not held anyone accountable for the brutal killing of a woman whose body parts were missing, and why the whistleblower in that case was murdered while in police custody.
Additionally, they inquired why no one has been held responsible for the mysterious deaths of EPS Agent Melvin Earley, auditors Gifty Lama, Albert Peters, George Famboto, Emmanuel Barten Nyeswa, Matthew Innis, and Precious Cooper.
In the meantime, the concerned former security officers have called on the Liberian Senate, through its Chairman of the National Security, Defense, and Intelligence Committee, Momo Cyrus, to invite the CDC-Council of Patriots (CDC-CoP) to provide its evidence, or to confirm the Commissioner General-designate of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), Elijah Rufus.
They noted that this is the first time an officer from the entity has risen through the ranks to become Commissioner General.
