Offices of the Albino Society of Liberia in Logan Town has been gutted by fire. The actual cause of the fire remains unknown.
According to eyewitness, the warehouse hosting medical supplies of the clinic got affected as a result of the fire disaster. Several medicines and other items including office supplies got damaged in the Monday, 27 May fire incident.
Speaking with reporters, the Executive Director of the Albino Society of Liberia explained that the fire could have spread massively to other offices and homes had it not been with the help of some employees of the clinic and residents.
Patricia Logan stated that the incident is saddened and a great setback to the Albino Society.
“We render free medical services for our members and even community dwellers but with this huge loss, we just don’t know where and how to begin including taking care of our members and the general public especially those who have benefited and continues to benefit from our health services over the years”, Madam Logan lamented.
She is appealing to the government of Liberia, well-meaning individuals and institutions to come to their rescue.
Madam Logan revealed that the incident is the first of its kind since the establishment of the organization.
“Unlike the damaged of valuable items and other medical supplies, the incident did not claim the life of anyone,” she disclosed.
The fire outbreak is said have occurred just few weeks to the celebration of World Albinism Day. The day will be celebrated on June 13, 2024.
