The Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) has addressed an operational incident that occurred on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Roberts International Airport (RIA) involving Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET 943. According to a released issued shortly after the incident, the aircraft landed safely on Runway 22 at approximately 17:27 PM. While turning to exit the runway onto the designated taxiway, the aircraft experienced a mechanical malfunction that rendered it temporarily immobile. In accordance with established safety procedures, airport recovery teams were immediately deployed, and the aircraft was safely towed from the runway to the tarmac.
“At all times, passengers and crew remained completely safe and faced no danger. Airport operations continued without disruption, and all normal activities were fully and smoothly maintained following clearance of the aircraft,” the LAA said. The aircraft’s mechanical fault was promptly repaired, and the flight has since departed on its scheduled journey.
The Liberia Airport Authority has formally requested the Liberia Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) to conduct an independent investigation into the incident to determine the root cause and recommend measures to prevent recurrence.
