The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection expresses deep concern over the tragic death of Ma Quita Jackson, an elderly woman believed to be in her 70s. According to a press release dated December 15, 2025, the late Ma Quita’s body was reportedly discovered behind a cemetery in a nearby bush in the Conqueror Community, Suakoko, Bong County.

According to reports available to the Ministry, Ma Quita Jackson went missing in the early hours of December 10, 2025, and her lifeless body was discovered on December 13, 2025. Gender Minister Gbeme Horace-Kollie said the circumstances surrounding her death are troubling and have generated widespread fear, anger, and suspicion within the community, particularly among women and vulnerable groups, “and so, this must be properly investigated.”

The Ministry notes that a 15-member jury constituted by the Suakoko Police Depot conducted a preliminary examination and reported that no foul was established. However, concerns have been raised by residents regarding the condition in which the body was found undressed and bearing marks. These observations have fueled public distrust and allegations that critical evidence may have been overlooked.

Furthermore, the Ministry said it is deeply concerned by reports of protests by women and citizens of Bong County, as well as the rejection of the jury’s findings by community leaders, who have alleged possible tampering with the body and are demanding a thorough and independent investigation, including a professional autopsy.

“While the Ministry acknowledges the efforts of government and security authorities, which resulted in the removal of the body to a funeral home and the reopening of blocked roads, we emphasize that addressing immediate demands does not replace the need for justice, truth, and accountability,” the Gender Minister stated.

She called on the Liberia National Police and relevant security institutions to deepen the investigation into the death of Ma Quita Jackson, ensure that a credible autopsy is conducted to determine the true cause of death, at the sane time she encourage women and community members to remain calm and cooperate with lawful authorities while pursuing justice through peaceful means.

The Ministry reaffirms its commitment to the protection of women, the elderly, and other vulnerable persons, and stresses that no suspicious death, especially under such circumstances, should be treated lightly. “We will continue to monitor developments closely and stand ready to work with county authorities, security agencies, and community leaders to ensure transparency, accountability, and restoration,” a release issued Monday, December 15, 2025, said.
