The Students Unification Party (SUP) celebrated its 55th anniversary in Monrovia over the weekend, with a call on progressive youth and party veterans to take the lead in shaping the country’s future. Former Assistant Minister Carlos Tingban, who delivered the keynote address, emphasized that it’s time for them to stop occupying the sidelines and actively participate in national development. He specifically declared 2029 as a crucial “Year of Opportunity” for Liberia.
”We, the veterans of SUP, alongside the vibrant youth, have a responsibility to guide Liberia towards a brighter future,” Tingban stated to a cheering crowd. “2029 is not just another year; it’s a pivotal moment where we can leverage our experience and energy to drive meaningful change.”
Tingban mentioned a comprehensive strategy focused on economic empowerment, educational reform, and good governance. He stressed the importance of unity and collaboration between generations in achieving these goals. ”The challenges facing Liberia are complex, but they are not insurmountable,” Tingban asserted. “By combining the wisdom of our veterans with the innovation and passion of our youth, we can overcome these obstacles and build a prosperous and just society for all Liberians.”
According to him, the Party has made strides for men and women in society; it is now time for us to join the wagon to change the narrative. He appreciated the administration of President Joseph Boakai for what he termed as responsive humility and moral leadership in 23 months of governance, amidst significant challenges. “Their achievements are tangible, with changes in key sectors like healthcare, improvements in the security sector, and the rebranding of the country’s global image.” The anniversary celebration also included speeches from other prominent SUP members, musical performances, and a historical overview of the party’s contributions to Liberian society.
